How to Propagate and Grow
Summer Flowering Gladiolus


Gladiolus originate from Europe, The Middle East and Africa and are a genus of cormous summer flowering bulbs with a large species of over one hundred and eighty.

Leaves are long, basal and erect.

Flowers are borne on one side of an upright spike and are densley packed.

Family: Iridaceae

Species: G. dalenii











Common Names: Sword Lily.

Classification: Corm.

Height: 1.5m (60inches).

Flowering: Throughout summer.

Usage: Ideal in summer flowering borders or beds.

They are ideal as cut flowers.

Site: They are best grown in partial shade.

They need shade from winds and may need staking.

Soil: Any rich and free draining soil.


Propagation Methods: By division in early spring.

By cormlets in late winter, early spring.
