How to Propagate and Grow
Spring Flowering Oxalis


Oxalis originate from South Africa and South America and are a fibrous rooted, tuberous or rhizomatous perennial.

Leaves are clover like and inverse heart shape which form dense mats.

Flowers are small cup shape borne on fragile stems above the dense leaves.

This garden plant can be invasive, so plant in your garden with care. Keep it in check.


Genus: Oxalis

Family: Oxalidaceae

Species: O. acetosella




Common Names: Wood sorrel.

Classification: Evergreen rhizome.

Height: 10cm (4inches).

Flowering: Throughout spring.

Usage: Grow them as ground cover in autumn flowering borders or beds.

They are ideal for rock gardens.

WARNING: they can be very invasive so maintain and restrict their growth.

You can restrict their growth by growing in patio pots and tubs, they make eye catching displays.

Site: Grow them in full sun, they thrive in it!

They will also do well in partial shade.

Soil: Any rich, moist but free draining soil.


Propagation Methods: By division in late spring to early autumn.

By bulblets in spring.
