How to Propagate and Grow Polygonatum
Genus: Polygonatum Family: Convallariaceae/Liliaceae
Species: P. canaliculatum
Common Names: Common Solomon's seal, Solomon's seal.
Classification: Perennial.
Height: 1.5m (60inches).
Flowering: From spring to early summer.
Usage: Ideal for borders and beds. Polygonatum makes an ideal cottage garden plant. Polgonatum are very effective in woodland and wild life gardens.
Site: Polygonatum prefer full sun, they thrive in it! Polygonatum will also do well in partial shade.
Soil: Any rich, moisture retentive but free draining soil.
Propagation Methods: By seed in autumn.
Place seeds in trays of moist horticultural sand and keep in cool shade.
Check seeds every 2 weeks or so.
As soon as radicles appear sow seed in compost as normal.
Best germination temperature: 40 deg F.
Time from sowing to germination: 1 year onwards.
Extremely slow germination, so you need to be very patient!
It is well worth the wait!
