How to Propagate and Grow Phytolacca

Species: P. americana
Common Names: Poke berry, poke weed, red ink plant.
Classification: Perennial.
Height: 4m (12foot).
Flowering: From summer through autumn. Phytolacca has a distinct repulsive smell!
Usage: Ideal for back of larger borders and beds. Grow phytolacca on its own as a shrub.
Site: Phytolacca prefer full sun, they thrive in it! Phytolacca will also do well in partial shade.
Soil: Any rich, moist but free draining soil.
Propagation Methods: By seed in spring.
Best germination temperature: 70 deg F.
Time from sowing to germination: 2 months onwards.
Can be slow to germinate, so be patient!
