Physalis


Physalis originates from Chile and Peru and is a rhizomatous perennial.

Leaves are oval and broad.

Single white flowers that form into orange berries inside waffer thin calyces.

Family: Solanaceae

Species: P. alkekengi










Common Names: Chinese lantern, bladder cherry, strawberry ground cherry.

Classification: Perennial.

Height: 45cm (18inches).

Flowering: Throughout summer.

Usage: Ideal for borders and beds.

Site: Grow them in full sun, they thrive in it!

They will also do well in partial shade.

Soil: Any free draining soil.


Propagation Methods: By seed in spring.

Best germination temperature: 75 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 7 - 30 days.
