Perennial Lathyrus


Genus: Lathyrus

Family: Leguminosae/Papilionaceae

Species: L. latifolius


Common Names: Everlasting pea, spring vetchling.

Classification: Perennial.

Height: Up to 3m (120inches).

Flowering: From summer through autumn.

Usage: Ideal for growing up fences and trellis.

Try growing lathyrus up through shrubs and taller plants for a dramatic effect.

Site: Lathyrus prefer full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Any humus rich, moist but free draining soil.


Propagation Methods: By seed in spring.

Pour warm water over seeds and soak for up to 3 days, or until seeds swell, then sow in compost as normal.

Best germination temperature: 70 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 2 - 8 weeks.
