How to Propagate and Grow
Perennial Iberis


Iberis are native to southern Europe and the western parts of Asia. They are a genus of hardy annuals and perennials with a species of around thirty .

Leaves are mid to dark green, very short and linear or lanced in shape.

A mass of flowers which form a dome shape are borne on short stems and are very tightly packed.

Most flowers in this genus are fragrant and are extensively used in flower arrangements by many florists.

All species are low growing and produce masses of flowers.

Species: I. sempervirens

Common Names: Candytuft, Evergreen candytuft.

Classification: Perennial.

Height: 30cm (12inches).

Flowering: From spring through early summer.


Where to plant info

This is an easy to grow gardenig plant and is useful in many locations. Remove flower heads as they fade to encourage more flowering.

Where: Ideal for use in borders, beds and rockeries.

They make good cut flowers.

Site: Grow them in full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Any free draining soil.


Propagation info

By seed in spring.

Do not cover seed with compost.

Cover seed with a thin layer of vermiculite.

Keep in light for germination, but not direct sunlight.

Best germination temperature: 70 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 3 - 21 days.

How to sow seeds

By soft wood cuttings in May through to early June.
