How to Propagate and Grow
Penstemon


Penstemon originate from Central and North America and are a genus of perennials with over two hundred and fifty species.

Leave shapes vary from linear to lance shape to elliptic.

Flowers range from funnel to tubular to bell shaped and are two lipped borne on racemes or panicles which are mainly upright.

Family: Scrophulariaceae

Cultivar: 'Connies Pink'










Common Names: Beard tongue, bearlip.

Classification: Perennial.

Height: 60cm (24inches).

Flowering: From summer through autumn.

Usage: Ideal for borders and beds.

Site: Grow them in full sun, they thrive in it!

They will also do well in partial shade.

Soil: Any rich but free draining soil.


Propagation Methods: By seed from winter to spring.

Do not cover seeds with compost.

Cover seeds with a thin layer of vermiculite to retain moisture and allow light through to the seeds.

Best germination temperature: 40 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 3 - 28 days.

How to sow seeds

By cuttings end of summer through autumn.
Division in spring.
