Genus: Nectaroscordum

Family: Alliaceae/Liliaceae

Species: N. siculum


Common Names: Ornamental onion.

Classification: Bulb, perennial.

Height: 1.5m (60inches).

Flowering: Throughout summer.

Usage: Ideal for borders and beds.

Plant them in large groups next to plants of similar height but of contrasting colours for a striking display.

Site: Grow them in full sun, they thrive in it!

They will also do well in partial shade.

Soil: Any rich but free draining soil.


Propagation Methods: By seed in spring or autumn.

Best germination temperature: 40 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 3 months onwards.

Very slow germination, can take 12 months, so be patient!

How to sow seeds

By offsets in summer.
