Genus: Melianthus

Family: Melianthaceae

Species: M. major


Common Names: Honey Bush, large honey bush.

Classification: Perennial (only in milder areas with winter mulching).

Height: 3m (120inches).

Flowering: From spring through summer.

Usage: Ideal for the back of larger borders and beds and grown mainly for its foliage.

Melianthus are excellent in patio tubs and pots.

Site: Melianthus prefer full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Any rich and very free draining soil.


Propagation Methods: By seed in spring.

You must sow this seed immediately after collecting, this will dramatically increase your germination rate.

Old seed takes longer to germinate and the germination rate is much reduced.

Best germination temperature: 50 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 14 - 28 days.
