How to Propagate and Grow
Eryngium


Eryngium originate from Europe, South America and North Africa and are a genus of perennials with over two hundred species.

Leaves are divided and oval or heart shaped.

Flowers are thistle like and surrounded by pointed bracts.


Genus: Eryngium

Family: Apiaceae/Umbelliferae

Species: E. giganteum




Common Names: Sea holly.

Classification: Perennial.

Height: 1.2m (48inches).

Flowering: From summer through autumn.

Usage: Ideal for front to middle of borders and beds.

They are very good as cut and dried flowers.

Site: Grow them in full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Ordinary poor and free draining soil.

Ground needs to be well and deep dug as the roots like to grow deep.


Propagation Methods: By seed when ripe.

You must sow these seeds immediately after collection, otherwise germination will be poor, slow and sparodic.

So, sow the seeds immediately.

Best germination temperature: 70 deg F.

Time from sowing to germination: 6 - 14 weeks.

How to sow seeds

By division in spring.

By root cuttings late winter.
