Leaves are usually narrow, channelled, upright or sickled shaped. Flowers are various in colour and usually have three inner and three outer petals. These garden plants are so varied they can be used in most positions and conditions in your garden ( yard ).
Family: Iridaceae Species: I. unguicularis Common Names: Winter iris, Algerian winter iris. Classification: Evergreen rhizome. Height: 20cm (8inches). Flowering: Autumn through to mid spring.
Usage: Grow them in autumn flowering borders or beds. Grown in patio pots and tubs they make a nice autumn display. They are excellent as a cut flower. Site: Grow then in full sun. They will also do well in partial shade. Soil: Any rich, moist but free draining soil.
