How to Propagate and Grow
Alcea


Alcea are genus of biennials grown mainly for their tall upright spikes of flowers. Leaves are heart-shaped leaves with a rough texture and crenated lobes.

Family: Malvaceae

Species: A. rosea


Common Names: Hollyhock.

Classification: Biennial.

Height: 2m (72inches).

Flowering: From summer through autumn.

Usage: Ideal for the back of borders and beds.

These garden plants are a must in any cottage garden planting.

Site: Grow them in full sun, they thrive in it!

Soil: Any rich, fertile and free draining soil.


Propagation Methods: By seed during autumn or winter to flower the following spring.

Or by seed in spring to flower the following year.

Best germinating temerature: 70 deg F.

Maintain seedlings between 55 deg F - 60 deg F after germination.

Time from sowing to germination: 7 to 14 days.
